Who is a Medical Practitioner?
To practice medicine in Sri Lanka, it is mandatory to be registered with the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) under the Medical Ordinance No. 26 of 1927. Our primary objective is to maintain academic and professional standards, discipline, and ethical practice to ensure the public receives safe and high-quality healthcare services.
Registration Path
For a medical graduate to practice independently as a doctor in Sri Lanka, they must successfully complete the following mandatory steps:
Provisional Registration
The initial registration issued to medical graduates exclusively to commence their mandatory Internship.
Internship
Successful completion of one year of practical clinical training at an approved government hospital.
Practitioner Registration
The final license granted after the internship, allowing the practitioner to work independently.

If you have successfully completed your MBBS Degree or ERPM Examination and are applying for Provisional Registration for the first time, create a new portal account to begin your application.
Provisional RegistrationCompleted Your Internship?
If you have successfully completed your internship, you are now eligible to apply for Medical Practitioner Registration (Section 29) through the online portal.
